After many years in a fast paced role as a foreman for a construction company David was looking for a change and that is when he discovered a meaningful career with Centacare Home Safety Services.
“I was working long hours, with a young family and didn’t have great work life balance,” said David. “When I decided to make a change, I loved the idea that I could be helping people who really need it.”
Recently, at Centacare we have been celebrating loving care and what this means to our clients and employees. As a field officer for home safety services, David spends his days out with clients, in their homes, making the improvements and adjustments they need to continue living there safely.
“We see a mix of people every day, but what amazes me everywhere I go, is how grateful people are for our assistance. Things that might seem small to others, like a front door that is jammed or a kitchen light bulb that needs replacing, can really impact client’s ability to live safely and it means so much to them to have our help.”
“For me personally it is a delight to see how much of a difference we can make. I also feel like it’s my job to go the extra mile for my clients. To me loving care means showing kindness and compassion and that’s why I always see the person and take an interest in their lives. Our clients aren’t just a number to us. For my regular clients I love hearing how the kids and grandchildren are getting on, how their most recent trip was or what they have been watching on the telly.”
