Celebrating the teams at the heart of aged care

“I wouldn’t be able to stay living in my unit without the care and support of Centacare.”

For 82-year-old Pat, those heartfelt words capture the difference Centacare’s aged care teams make this Aged Care Employee Day and every day.

Pat receives Level four Support at Home services, including personal care, domestic support and regular visits to Aspley Social and Community Hub. Together, those services mean she can continue living independently, in the home she loves.

But it’s the people behind the care who have made the greatest difference.

“They’re always so helpful,” said Pat. “And they listen to me. If I’ve got some worries, I can always talk to them.”

Her care team provides practical support with everyday tasks, but they also offer something just as important – reassurance, connection and someone who genuinely cares.

Sandra who is 78, knows that feeling well.

Having moved from North Queensland, Sandra didn’t know many people when she first started attending Centacare’s Aspley Hub. She quickly increased the number of days she attends because of the friendships, activities and welcoming environment created by the team she calls her ‘Aspley family’.

From trivia games and outings to shared meals and meaningful conversations, Sandra said every visit reminds her that she’s valued as an individual.

“They don’t just look after us as a group,” shared Sandra. “Every one of us is individually taken care of, as our special needs require.”

On Aged Care Employee Day (7 August 2026), we’re celebrating the extraordinary people who make care their calling and many special moments possible.

“Every day, our aged care teams ensure our clients are not just cared for, but cared about, in ways that help them live their fullest lives,” shared Jade Cronan-Thompson, General Manager, Aged Care and Home Safety.

Whether supporting older Australians to remain safely at home, creating places where friendships flourish, or simply taking the time to listen, our aged care teams help people live with greater independence, confidence and connection.

To every member of our aged care team, thank you for the care, kindness and dedication you bring every day. Your support means the world.
