Elder abuse happens

Any older person can experience abuse, whether they live alone, with others or in care. Many older people don't talk about the harm, mistreatment, exploitation or neglect they experience because of feelings of shame or fear of retaliation. Sometimes, they may not even realise that what they are experiencing is abuse, or feel that somehow it's their fault. Being able to recognise the signs that an older person is experiencing abuse is an important first step.
