The group enjoys a friendly game outdoors, strengthening connection and wellbeing through shared activities.
Clients at our Waminda Social and Community Hub are embracing the spirit of Seniors Month, drawing on their unique skills and years of experience in the garden to bring new life to their outdoor space at the Hub.
The tight knit group of 15 regularly visit the Ningi-based Hub and decided, in preparation for barbeque season, a facelift for their garden was in order. They’ve held planning meetings and, as part of their research, visited the local garden centre to gather further ideas and inspiration.
“What makes this project truly special is that every member of our community brings their own ideas and creativity,” said Centacare Care Partner, Monique.
“The joy and energy of working as a team to plan and plant the new garden really reflects the values celebrated during Seniors Month — connection, wellbeing and recognising the lasting impact of older Queenslanders. It’s amazing to see the sense of pride they have in sharing their wisdom and working together to create a beautiful space for our Waminda community to enjoy.”
Travelling together on the Centacare bus, the clients enjoy sharing their knowledge about soil types, plant care and planting techniques. At the garden centre they explore rows of vibrant flowers, leafy shrubs and herbs and extend their knowledge by chatting with the friendly staff on hand.
As the hub’s outdoor space takes shape with new plants, seating and decorative touches, it remains a favourite spot for clients to gather, have a chat or enjoy a quiet moment. “Our garden is a space that everyone feels part of,” Monique said. “It’s somewhere to connect, tell stories and enjoy being together — and that’s what Waminda is all about.”
