It’s 8am on Monday morning and Centacare support worker Dani is visiting Rosemary, 81, at her Acacia Ridge home.
Rosemary’s eyesight has deteriorated to the point that she is almost blind and Dani “serves as her eyes”, walking alongside Rosemary to complete everyday living tasks so she can continue to live in her home of 58 years.
Every year on 7 August Centacare takes the opportunity to celebrate its hardworking frontline staff. From aged care to disability care to mental health, in people’s homes, in hubs and out in in the community, our support workers ensure that people have what they need to achieve what’s important to them at that moment and into the future.
Support worker Grace visits Emily, 26, at her home every Wednesday and every second Friday. On Wednesdays Grace take Emily to Centacare’s Iluka Social and Life Skills Hub, where Emily does drama.
On Fridays Grace will take Emily out into the community – they might go shopping for new clothes, visit friends, attend appointments or go to the movies.
Dani and Grace are just two of many Centacare support workers who walk alongside people to make a meaningful difference in their lives. If care is your calling, find out more about becoming a Centacare support worker.
