Last Friday, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Women and Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Shannon Fentiman officially opened our new Gold Coast hub and Gold Coast Family Relationship Centre.
The hub, located in Southport, provides family law counselling, family dispute resolution, family and relationship counselling, domestic and family violence support and serves as an administration centre for Centacare’s aged care and disability care services in the Logan Gold Coast region.
Minister Fentiman said the hub was a valuable addition for the Gold Coast community, providing a one stop shop where families, children and adults can access a range of specialist individual and family services.
She said as more women come forward to report violence, it was important that they had access to crucial support from hardworking frontline services that would help them rebuild their lives.
Our Gold Coast team welcomed about 60 guests to the opening, including clients and their families. Self-described social butterfly and Centacare client, Janice, who has lived with Parkinson’s disease for 18 years, joined Minister Fentiman and Auxiliary Bishop and Vicar-General, Bishop Ken Howell to cut the cake.
Janice shared with the audience that, with support from Centacare and her Service Delivery Manager Sarah Hessels, she had been able to continue doing the activities she loves such as staying physically active, dancing, sewing and art.
Bishop Ken blessed the hub and joined Minister Fentiman, Member for Southport Rob Molhoek, Dean of the South Coast Deanery and Surfers Paradise Parish Priest Fr Peter Dillon, Acting Executive Director of Brisbane Catholic Education Doug Ashleigh, Centacare Executive Director Peter Selwood, Community Elder Aunty Joyce Summers and members of the Centacare Council to tour the building and its modern client facilities.
From initial project scoping, to building design and construction, the team has implemented comprehensive practice governance structures, risk management systems and processes to enable delivery of a range of complex services in a way that ensures the safety and wellbeing of all clients, employees and stakeholders.
