At our Sunnybank centre, you’ll get to know other clients in small group settings – allowing strong friendships and rapport to grow. You’ll have the freedom to choose what activities you participate in and we’ll seek regular input from you on what you’d like to do each day. We regularly hold concerts and welcome entertainers as well as guest speakers who present on a range of topics including healthy living and how to access support services in the community. You’ll have fun participating in our range of games and quizzes and if you’d prefer to get out and about, we do regular day trips where you’ll enjoy picnics and fresh air. Group transport services are available if you need assistance getting to and from our centre and morning tea and lunch are provided catering to dietary requirements.
The Vintage Voices Choir is one of the highlight activities you’ll find at our Hub. The health benefits of singing are well documented and certainly, our group of almost 60 members enjoy a sense of camaraderie and companionship as they come together to share their love of music.
Vintage Voices was formed in 2010 and provides an inclusive, welcoming space for people who may not have sung before, or for whom medical conditions or mobility concerns might have prohibited participation in a community choir. There are no auditions to join the choir and if you need support to attend this can be arranged.
We meet every Wednesday at 11.30am under the direction of renowned Choral Director, Dr Debra Shearer-Dirié. We enjoy coming together for a light meal following a 90-minute rehearsal.
Choir members are funded through the government’s Commonwealth Home Support Program plus a client co-payment contribution of $11.50 per attendance. Sheet music for the choir is organised by Centacare and loaned for the year while in use.
